Endless Mode Guide
After Day 26, the checkpoint never closes. Whether you stayed after the good ending or fell into SNAFU, here's how to survive indefinitely.
What Is Endless Mode?
Endless Mode is an infinite continuation of the game after the 26-day campaign ends. There is no final objective — you simply keep running the checkpoint, processing survivors, managing resources, and defending against zombie waves. Quotas continue but with smaller evacuation groups (5–19 survivors instead of the campaign's 50). It's the ultimate test of your inspection skills and base management.
How to Enter Endless Mode
There are two distinct ways to enter Endless Mode, each with very different starting conditions.
Continue from Campaign (Recommended)
Complete the good ending, then choose "Stay" when offered the helicopter
All your upgrades, tools, research points, and discovered symptoms carry over from the campaign. This gives you a massive head start with fully upgraded tools, unlocked buildings, and a complete symptom library.
- +All upgrades preserved
- +All symptoms already discovered
- +Smooth difficulty transition
- +Resources carried over
- -Requires completing the campaign first
- -Must specifically choose to stay
Fresh Start
Select Endless Mode from the main menu without completing the campaign
You start from scratch with all tools available but almost no symptoms unlocked. This means you must send nearly everyone to the lab for the first several days just to discover symptoms, making early quotas extremely challenging.
- +Immediate access without campaign
- +Greater challenge for veterans
- -No symptoms unlocked
- -No upgrades
- -First quota can require 16+ survivors with only 12 capacity
- -Syringes are rare
Campaign vs Endless Mode
Key differences between the 26-day campaign and the infinite Endless Mode.
| Campaign | Endless | |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | 26 days (fixed) | Infinite (until wall collapse) |
| Evacuation Size | 5 → 9 → 14 → 17 → 18 (scripted) | 5–19 (randomized, escalating) |
| Evacuation Days | Day 5, 10, 15, 21, 26 | Regular intervals (every few days) |
| Symptoms Available | Unlock progressively through zones | All tools from Day 1 (Fresh) or carried over (Continue) |
| Bulletin Board | 20 unique directives (Day 7–26) | No new directives |
| Quota Failure | 3 failures → bad ending | No permanent consequence — cycle repeats |
| Zombie Waves | Gradual escalation | Continuous escalation, increasingly dangerous |
| Achievements | 4 campaign-only achievements | Most achievements completable here |
Starting Strategy (Fresh Start)
If you chose a fresh start, the first few days are critical. Here's how to survive the brutal early game.
Days 1–3: Symptom Discovery
- Send every survivor with unknown symptoms to the lab — this is your top priority
- You start with basic symptoms: Yellow Eyes, Freckles, Red Skin, Bite Marks, Aggression, Nonspecific Respiration
- Focus on discovering as many symptoms as possible to build your detection library
- Don't worry about perfect inspection scores yet — lab research is more important
Days 3–6: First Quota Preparation
- Start processing survivors normally using your growing symptom library
- Upgrade tent capacity ASAP — your first quota may require 16+ survivors but you start with only 12 capacity
- Save healthy survivors in the survivor block for the evacuation
- The first quota can appear as early as Day 5 with up to 19 required survivors
Days 7+: Stabilization
- By now you should have most common symptoms unlocked
- Focus on building upgrades: Tier 3 Kitchen is essential to prevent starvation
- Begin upgrading tools using accumulated research points
- Establish a rhythm of inspect → process → defend cycle
Endless Mode Upgrade Priority
Resource management is even more critical in Endless Mode. Prioritize these upgrades for long-term survival.
Critical (Get Immediately)
Tier 3 Kitchen
Prevents starvation-related deaths. If the kitchen goes dark, survivors riot almost instantly. Rush this upgrade above all else.
Tent Capacity Upgrade
Your starting capacity of 12 is not enough. First quotas can require 16–19 survivors. Upgrade before the first evacuation.
Plantation Farm
Drastically reduces food costs. With the farm running, you rarely need to buy food — saving money for other upgrades.
High Priority
Solar Panel
Provides 12 free watts at no ongoing cost. Reduces your power dependency and frees up fuel budget.
Tool Color Indicators
Thermopulsometer and Stethoscope color indicators are game-changers for inspection speed. Get them as soon as you reach the required zone level.
Auto-Detectors (Eye & UV)
Automatically flag certain symptoms during inspection. Saves enormous amounts of time in the late game.
Helpful
Scanner Clear View
See through blood and mud to spot hidden symptoms. Important but less urgent than food/capacity.
Matioscope Upgrades
Faster layer switching and autofocus make the hardest tool much more usable. Prioritize once you have stable resources.
Medkit Generator
Provides passive medical supplies. Useful but not critical if you manage quarantine efficiently.
Skip / Low Priority
Zombie Cage
Don't waste $40,000 upgrading it — the game provides it automatically. Save that money for productive upgrades.
Titanium Hammer Head
Only increases zombie damage. Useless for inspections, which is your primary job.
Quota & Evacuation Management
Endless Mode quotas work differently from the campaign. Here's how to handle them effectively.
Quota failure has no permanent consequence
Unlike the campaign where 3 failures trigger the bad ending, Endless Mode quotas simply cycle. Missing a quota just means waiting for the next opportunity.
Evacuation groups are smaller
Endless Mode evacuations require 5–19 survivors instead of the campaign's larger groups. This makes individual quotas easier to fill.
Don't evacuate everyone prematurely
Only send survivors when you're confident you'll meet the quota. Keeping healthy survivors in reserve gives you a buffer for the next evacuation.
Prioritize Science over Military
When choosing evacuation destinations, Science provides consistent research points. Military gives more cash but research points are scarcer and more valuable long-term.
Send zombies with evacuations
Fill zombie cages and send them with evacuations for bonus research points and money. This adds up significantly over time.
Late-Game Efficiency Tips
Once you've stabilized resources and unlocked all symptoms, shift to maximum efficiency mode.
Skip symptom marking for obvious infections
When you find an obviously infected survivor, skip the detailed symptom chart and send them directly to liquidation. This saves time when you already know all symptoms.
Use the elimination shortcut
Late-game, with all symptoms memorized, you can identify and process infected survivors in seconds rather than minutes. Speed is survival.
Maintain surplus resources
Always keep a food, fuel, and medical supply buffer. Running out of any resource triggers riots that can cascade into disaster.
Confiscate contraband aggressively
Confiscated items generate research points and cash. In Endless Mode every bit of income matters for maintaining your base.
Use Endless Mode for achievements
Most achievements (20+ out of 24) can be completed in Endless Mode without risking your campaign score. It's actually easier for many grind-based achievements.
Watch for zombie wave escalation
Zombie waves get progressively harder. Keep your drone defense upgraded and ammunition stocked. Wall collapse ends the game permanently.
Endless Mode Achievements
Most of the game's achievements can be completed in Endless Mode. Only 4 achievements are campaign-exclusive.

Quick Tips
- Continue from campaign for the smoothest Endless Mode experience — all upgrades and symptoms carry over
- Fresh start is for veterans only: you'll face all symptoms with almost no detection tools unlocked
- Rush Tier 3 Kitchen above everything else to prevent starvation cascades
- Quota failure isn't the end — Endless Mode simply repeats the cycle with no permanent penalty
- Science evacuations > Military evacuations for long-term sustainability
- Don't upgrade the zombie cage — it unlocks automatically and the $40,000 is better spent elsewhere
- Late game: skip marking symptoms on obvious infections and send directly to liquidation
- Wall collapse is the only true game over — keep drone defense upgraded at all times
