Safe vs Infected Symptoms

Quick reference guide to distinguish harmless symptoms from infection signs

Last Updated: January 19, 2026

Color Rating System

Quarantine Zone uses a three-color system to classify symptoms. Understanding this system is crucial for making correct decisions.

Green - Safe

Indicates sickness but NOT infection. Survivors with ONLY green symptoms can safely enter the Survivors Block.

Send to Survivors Block

Orange - Quarantine

May be sickness OR early infection. Requires observation in Quarantine for 1-2 days to monitor progression.

Send to Quarantine

Red - Infected

Definite infection sign. Survivors with ANY red symptom must be sent to Liquidation immediately - there is no cure.

Send to Liquidation

Safe Symptoms (Green)

These symptoms look alarming but do NOT indicate zombie infection. A survivor with only these symptoms is safe to admit.

Visual Inspection

Yellow Eyes

Whites of the eyes turn bright yellow. May indicate jaundice but not infection.

Freckles

Small brown or orange dots across cheeks and nose. Purely cosmetic, no infection relevance.

Herpes

Small misshapen brown/red splotches without pustules. A common condition, not infection.

Bruises

Blue, green, and yellow mixed splotches. Normal injury bruising, not necrosis.

Red Skin

Facial reddening or blush on cheeks or entire face. Only appears on the face.

Nosebleed

Two lines of red blood from each nostril. Different from green nose pus.

Stethoscope

Sickly Breath

Breathing with a slight wheeze. Indicates respiratory illness, not zombie infection.

Reflex Hammer

Absent Reflex

Arm barely moves when hit - only a tiny jerk, no swing. Different from crossed reflex.

Matioscope

Ocular Spicular Bacterium

Pink/orange tube with branches that occasionally twirls. A harmless eye organism.

Thread Cluster

Bundle of white threads that remains stationary. Common eye floater.

Ocular Helminth

Small translucent worm that wiggles in a straight line. Parasitic but not infectious.

Adenoviral Body

Greenish-orange ball with long nubs that occasionally pulses. Viral but not zombie-related.

X-Ray

Internal Bleeding

Organ still normal reddish color but covered in bleeding sores. Different from necrosis.

Fatty Hepatosis

Organ covered in yellow splotches. A liver condition, distinct from blue moldy organ.

UV Tower

UV Vapor

Green mist surrounding parts of the survivor under UV light. Floating in air, not on skin.

Infected Symptoms (Red)

Any ONE of these symptoms confirms zombie infection. Do not quarantine - send directly to Liquidation.

Visual Inspection

Red Eyes

Whites of the eyes turn bright red (not just irritated corners like conjunctivitis).

Green Skin

Entire body's skin appears green or very yellow. Systemic infection sign.

Necrosis

Several dark BLACK splotches on skin. Different from bruises which are multi-colored.

Bite Mark

Visible bloody human teeth marks. Every bite in this game is a zombie bite.

Eye Pus

Small drop of GREEN pus at the corner of the eye. Can be very small.

Nose Pus

Drop of GREEN pus from one nostril. Different from red nosebleed.

Thermopulsometer

High Temperature

Temperature above 105°F (41°C). Beyond survivable human fever range.

Extreme Pulse

Pulse over 180 BPM. Dangerously abnormal heart rate.

Stethoscope

Infected Breath

Sounds like a zombie GROWLING instead of any kind of breathing. Unmistakable.

Reflex Hammer

Crossed Reflex

Hit one arm, the OPPOSITE arm swings instead. The 'smoking gun' of infection.

Matioscope

Necrotic Plume

Dark black, blurry smudge in the eye. Usually vaguely diamond shaped.

Corneal Infiltrate

Dull green ball with tiny brown nubs. Distinctly different from safe organisms.

X-Ray

Moldy Organ

Organ colored teal BLUE. Very different from yellow fatty hepatosis.

Organ Necrosis

Organ almost fully covered in dark BLACK splotches. Death of tissue.

UV Tower

UV Contraband

Green glowing SPOT on backpack items under UV. Check items before confiscating.

UV Symptom

Hidden symptoms (bites, necrosis, pus) that GLOW GREEN directly on skin under UV.

Objects/Baggage

Contaminated Baggage

Any bloody human parts (limbs, fingers, heads, bones, organs) in backpack. Biohazard.

Commonly Confused Symptoms

These symptom pairs are commonly confused. Pay close attention to the distinguishing features.

Safe

Yellow Eyes

Bright YELLOW whites

Infected

Red Eyes

Bright RED whites

How to Tell Apart:

Use Matioscope - entire inside will match the color

Safe

Bruises

Blue/green/yellow MIX

Infected

Necrosis

Pure BLACK splotches

How to Tell Apart:

Bruises are colorful; necrosis is always black

Safe

Nosebleed

RED blood lines

Infected

Nose Pus

GREEN pus drop

How to Tell Apart:

Color is key - red blood vs green pus

Safe

Absent Reflex

Arm doesn't move at all

Infected

Crossed Reflex

OPPOSITE arm moves

How to Tell Apart:

Absent = no reaction; Crossed = wrong arm reacts

Safe

Fatty Hepatosis

YELLOW splotches on organ

Infected

Moldy Organ

BLUE colored organ

How to Tell Apart:

Yellow = fatty; Blue = moldy (infected)

Safe

Internal Bleeding

Red organ with bleeding sores

Infected

Organ Necrosis

BLACK splotches covering organ

How to Tell Apart:

Bleeding = red with sores; Necrosis = black patches

Safe

UV Vapor

Green mist in AIR around body

Infected

UV Symptom

Green glow ON SKIN

How to Tell Apart:

Vapor floats; UV Symptom is on the body

Quick Decision Rules

ONLY Green symptoms

Safe to admit - they're sick but not infected

Survivors Block
ANY Orange symptom

Observe for 1-2 days. May recover or worsen

Quarantine
ANY Red symptom

Immediate elimination - no cure exists

Liquidation
Many Orange, no Red

High probability of infection - don't risk it

Consider Liquidation
Zombie parts in bag

Contaminated baggage = treat as infected

Liquidation

Warning

When in doubt, quarantine. It's better to observe than to let an infected survivor into the living block.
